I have a thing for certain words. There are some that annoy me, some that make me really angry and some that I think are perfect. One word that annoys me is the word “BLOG”. I did a little research on it and it is a shortening or combination of web log and was coined several years ago.
Admittedly, part of what annoys me about the word is that people were talking about blogs and I was thinking to myself “What the hell is a blog?” I am one of those people who sometimes becomes annoyed by something when I’m out of the loop. This was one of those moments.
But, there is something also truly annoying about the word “BLOG”. I’ll start with the way it sounds as you begin pronouncing it, BLah. Perhaps that is appropriate given that the format allows us to just go on and on, (blah, blah, blah). But to me, BLah is similar to bland and boring, and I am not someone who wants to be called that (does anyone?).
The other part of the word “BLOG” to me is that it sounds a little too much like the sound someone might make when throwing up. Again, this seems appropriate for the format if you think about writing blogs as a way of throwing up all your emotions and experiences onto a web page. Something I’ll probably be just as guilty of doing as anyone, but it still sounds annoying.
Given that I don’t like the word “BLOG”, I’ve decided this isn’t a BLOG, it’s a WEBLET!
We live in a society where people make up words all the time, so why can’t I?
What’s a WEBLET you ask? I’m glad you did!
In the past, when it comes to various writings, our society has pamphlets and booklets. Both short writing formats. We also have the word outlet, which can be associated with several things, but I like the definition that it’s a means of expression. This expression, Unexpected Blueprint, is on the web, so I’m combining WEB with pamphLET, bookLET or outLET and that is what a WEBLET is.
Welcome to my WEBLET!
